Alpiq has secured a CHF68m ($70.36m) railway technology order from Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Canton of Geneva for the CEVA rail route in Western Switzerland.
The deal comes after Alpiq's successful delivery of a railway technology system for the country's Gotthard Base Tunnel in June this year.

As part of the order, a consortium comprising Alpiq and Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group will equip the 16km route with a railway technology system. Work is expected to begin later this year, with planned completion in 2019.
Upon completion, the route will connect Geneva in Switzerland to Annemasse in France via Eaux-Vives, reducing traffic congestion in the Geneva region and allowing for services between Western Switzerland and France.
The route runs through tunnels and over bridges before reaching its destination in France, Alpiq said in a statement.
The Alpiq-led consortium will take responsibility for overall coordination, as well as logistics and construction site organisation. The company will also provide services in overall project management, quality assurance, and the organisation of work safety.
