French engineering group Egis has secured an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract for system equipment on Paris Metro Line 18 as part of the Grand Paris Express project.

The Grand Paris Metro will see 200km of new tracks and 68 stations being built to connect suburbs in Paris and create more cross-city links.

Travelling from Orly Airport to Versailles Chantiers in 32min, the 35km Line 18 will have 21km of underground and 14km of elevated track. Additionally, ten new stations on the line will serve some of south-west Paris’ most strategic hubs.

As part of the deal, Egis will be responsible to manage all systems along the new route, including stations, maintenance and operating sites.

The systems include high and low-voltage installations, platform screen doors, automatic train control systems, operating centres, tunnel ventilation and guidance.

Project owner Société du Grand Paris has decided to use automatic trains along the new line, which will have technical specifications, including 45m-long and 2.5m-wide steel-wheeled trains, powered by a third rail.

In 2014, Egis secured a €67.5m contract for the infrastructure of Line 16, which runs from Noisy-Champs to Le Bourget RER station.

The company is also conducting a €25m study for the Le Bourget RER-Saint-Denis Pleyel-Saint-Ouen section, which will form Line 14 North and Line 17 South.
