A consortium of Alstom and Bouygues Travaux Publics has won a €450m contract from Light Rail Manila (LRMC) in Philippines to upgrade and extend light rail transit (LRT) line 1 of the Manila metro.
In the contract, Alstom’s share is worth €160m and will provide an integrated metro solution, including a signalling and communication system, traction power supply and track work on the 12km extended line.
A new depot is to be built as part of the contract, and the existing depot will be extended.
Alstom said in a statement: "With 16 million inhabitants in Manila and only three metro lines, it was necessary to alleviate congestion and reduce travel times for commuters.
"In 20 years, the LRT-1 line, which is serving 20 stations along its 20km route, has experienced an increase of its daily ridership from over 400,000 to 500,000 today."
Alstom will also install Atlas 100 on-board signalling solution for 60 trains and upgrade signalling system for the existing 20km line.
