Metro de Panama has selected Alstom-led consortium to supply additional cars for Line 1 of Panama Metro.
Under the €145m contract awarded to the consortium of Alstom, Thales, Sofratesa, CIM and TSO, Alstom will supply 70 metro cars, Thales and Sofratesa will provide ATS, telecom and auxiliary systems, while TSO/CIM are in charge of the track, catenary and depot equipment.
Alstom has a contract share of €130m and will manufacture the rolling stock at its Santa Perpetua plant in Barcelona.
The contract will also see Alstom upgrade the existing signalling system and the power supply besides expanding the depot facilities.
Alstom Latin America senior vice-president Michel Boccaccio said: "Line 1 of Panama Metro is a great success and Alstom is pleased to be part of it and we thank Panama Metro for placing their trust in us.
"The new Metropolis cars will increase the fleet’s capacity, smooth traffic flow and enhance passengers’ travelling experience."

By GlobalDataAlstom supplied the first 20 Metropolis trains for the metro under a contract awarded in 2010.
The new cars are expected to help Metro de Panama to expand its fleet, bringing the number of operational metros on Line 1 to 26.
Deliveries under the order are expected to take place in 2017.
The 16km Line 1 of Panama Metro includes 14 stations across the city from north to south.
The line has reached 200,000 passengers a day.
In October this year, the Metro authorities launched construction of the second metro line being built by the Línea 2 consortium of Odebrecht and FCC.
Alstom has been contracted to supply a fleet of 21 five-car Metropolis trainsets for Line 2.
The project is slated to be completed within four years.
