Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is set to deliver a five-car new train to the Tokyo’s Bureau of Transportation in Japan, for operations on the Nippori-Toneri Liner.

The new trains will begin running on the automated guideway transit (AGT) system from October, easing the peak-hour rush.

The new lightweight Model 330 trains feature MHI’s more comfortable G-Fit seats.

The longer, longitudinal seating is expanded by 19 seats, while the overall capacity is increased by 97 passengers in each five-car train, compared with the existing model.

"The reduction in train weight reduces energy consumption and increases service life for components.

The trains are 1.5t lighter than the older models, thanks to their double-skin, aluminium body structure.

The lightweight T-smover bogies with rubber tyres provide low-noise and vibration, and are easy to maintain.

Operated by the Tokyo metropolitan government since 2008, the Nippori-Toneri Liner connects Nippori Station in Arakawa-ku to Minumadai-shinsuikoen Station in Adachi-ku, a distance of approximately 10km.
