Bombardier launched its new OMNEO Premium train for intercity travel, which has been designed to deliver high comfort for both business and leisure passengers.

Skytrain construction begins on North West Rail Link project
New South Wales (NSW) transport minister Gladys Berejiklian announced that work has started on the skytrain and the new Kellyville railway station, as part of the NSW government’s $8.3bn North West Rail Link project.
Geotechnical drilling work is currently underway at Kellyville, as well as along the rest of the skytrain route, to determine the ground conditions where the 112 skytrain piers are expected to be built. Kellyville station is one of the eight new stations to be built for the route.
UK and China sign MoU for rail design and construction
UK Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang agreed to allow both the countries’ rail industries to work together, in order to strengthen economic growth, jobs and skills.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by the UK Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin and the National Development and Reform Committee (NDRC) chairman Xu Shaoshi, on behalf of China.
As part of a bilateral agreement signed at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO), the MoU aims to create a closer partnership on rail design, engineering, supply, operation, maintenance and construction.
Uganda to award $8bn railway contracts to Chinese firms
The Ugandan Government began looking for bidders in China for $8bn worth of contracts that will expand the country’s rail network.
The country has signed an agreement with the Chinese Government, under which six firms will have exclusive rights to lead the project.
The winning bidders will be awarded with engineering, procurement and construction contracts.
Crossrail’s new Thames Tunnel unveiled
UK Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne unveiled Crossrail’s new tunnel under the River Thames, as part of the £14.8bn Crossrail project.
When it becomes operational in 2018, the tunnel will improve connections between south-east London and the rest of the city.
Crossrail’s Thames tunnel is expected to reduce the journey times from Abbey Wood to Canary Wharf, Bond Street and Liverpool Street.
Stadler Rail to supply passenger cars to Azerbaijan Railways
Swiss train maker Stadler Rail agreed to supply 30 new passenger cars to Azerbaijan Railways.
A CHF120m ($133.4m) supply contract was signed by both companies and has an option to deliver another 70 sleeping cars.
The order comprises 27 sleeper carriages and three dining carriages.
Spain’s ADIF awards €339m ERTMS Level 2 high-speed rail contract
Spain’s ADIF awarded a new €339m European rail traffic management system (ERTMS) Level 2 high-speed rail contract to a consortium consisting of Alstom, Bombardier and Indra.
As part of the contract, the consortium will install ETCS Level 2 signalling on two high-speed lines in north-west Spain.
Bombardier’s share is valued at approximately $195m and the project will implement its globally proven radio-based INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 system. The company will also supply fixed communications, CCTV and GSM-R technology.
