A €2bn Qatar tram transport contract has been awarded to a consortium composed of Alstom and Vinci subsidiary QDVC.
Alstom will provide a turnkey tramway system, signalling and trackworks for the tram network and power supply equipment such as substations, catenary and APS.
The contract covers the supply, design, manufacturing, commissioning and servicing of 35 Citadis low-floor tramways, with an option for 32 additional tramways.
The 32m-long Citadis tram will enable enhanced communications with passenger information and security systems.
Alstom’s APS solution has undergone technical adaptations to enable catenary-free operation in extreme temperatures.
Alstom president Henri Poupart-Lafarge said: "Lusail will benefit from the proven experience of the Citadis tramway, an emblematic product in our range.
"This new order in the Middle East demonstrates the success of our global strategy and the strong links we have with the region."
The network will consist of four lines and will covering a city-wide distance of 33km.
The system is expected to become operational in 2018.
