Mott MacDonald has been selected to undertake the reference design for the NZ$2.86bn ($2.44bn) upgrade of the City Rail Link (CRL) project in Auckland, New Zealand.
The company will develop the project with other team members, including Aurecon, Jasmax and Grimshaw, on behalf of Auckland’s transport authority.
As part of the project, Mott MacDonald will lead the design of the stations, as well as the mechanical and electrical systems.
Work under the CRL upgrade project includes the construction of two 3.4km-long twin tunnels. It aims to extend the existing underground rail line with additional stations in the city station.
The CRL enhancements will also provide passengers with access to additional, faster trains, which will run more frequently to an increased number of destinations.
Mott MacDonald project director Peter Taylor said: "CRL is the most significant improvement to Auckland’s transport network since the opening of the Auckland Harbour Bridge.
