DHL Global Forwarding, Freight has unveiled plans to develop a temperature-controlled China-Europe rail service, which will enable customers to use the route to ship weather sensitive products throughout the year.
The DHL’s temperature-controlled rail service containers are powered by a diesel-electric engine and are designed to control, track and remotely modify internal temperatures.
The internal temperature in the DHL containers can be set from -25°C to 25°C all-year round, even if the external temperatures range from above 26°C to below -17°C.
Equipped with an advanced track and trace system, the lightweight aluminum and high-strength steel built containers enable customers to know their shipment’s precise location as well as check and modify internal temperatures during the route.
With the new development, customers can now use the fast and cost-effective trans-continental West rail corridor between Chengdu, China and Lodz, Poland, to transport temperature sensitive products during extreme cold and hot climatic conditions.
DHL Freight CEO Amadou Diallo said: "In May 2013 we introduced our time saving and CO2 efficiency-increasing multimodal solution for transports between Asia and Europe. With the launch of our new China to Europe temperature-controlled shipping capabilities we are now able to upgrade this service within less than one year.
