Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (ADIF) of Spain has signed a technical co-operation agreement with the National Capital Region Transport (NCRTC) and a joint venture (JV) to develop rapid rail transit systems (RRTS) in India’s National Capital region (NCR).
The JV is a partnership between the Government of India and the State Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.
The new RRTS will be designed to include the latest track structure, rolling stock, and signalling systems, which will allow for operations at 180km/h.
ADIF will co-operate with NCRTC to develop track, signalling, rolling stock, safety, multi-modal integration, and station design for the Panipat Smart Line and Delhi-Alwar Smart Line RRTS corridors in Phase I.
ADIF will also offer technical advice regarding project implementation and training to associated personnel, as part of the agreement.
Hyundai Rotem has been awarded a €720m ($850.52m) contract by the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iranian Rail Industries Development to provide 450 diesel multiple unit (DMU) cars to be used for suburban operations.

Hyundai will carry out the construction of 150 three-car DMUs at its South Korean facility, while the remaining 300 will be built in Iran by the Iranian Rail Industries Development Company.
Raja Passenger Train Company will receive 150 three-car DMUs from Hyundai.
The first batch of trains will be supplied in 18 months, while the duration of the whole contract completion is expected to be six and half years.
Mitsubishi Electric has been awarded a contract by French National Railways (SNCF) to deliver prototype traction transformers to be installed on Z2N and T4 trains.
Made of aluminium winding cables, the transformer to be installed on Z2N will weigh approximately 400kg.
The T4 natural running air cooling type traction transformer will be placed on the car’s roof to reduce the need for an electric cooling fan.
The transformers have an identical interface design. The installation is expected to reduce electricity loss and maintenance costs.
The transformers are expected to be supplied consecutively by February and December 2018.
OBB-Personenverkehr (OBB-PV) has received a €500m ($557.69m) loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB).
OBB-PV is an Austria-based mobility services provider.
The agreement for the first €100m ($111.53m) tranche has been signed between OBB-PV and EIB.
OBB-PV will use the loan to purchase new Cityjet train sets, which will be operated for local and regional services.
OBB-PV will only receive the loan upon the guarantee from the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), which is a central plank of the Investment Plan for Europe (IPE).
