A rail operator based in Poland’s Mazovia region, Koleje Mazowieckie, has signed an agreement to purchase 71 new FLIRT EMU trains from Stadler as part of a contract valued at zl2.2bn ($647.9m).
The new FLIRT trains are stated to be more spacious than previous models and are capable of reaching a maximum speed of 160 km/hour.
The trains are are equipped with ETCS level 2 automatic train control systems and have been fitted with contemporary doors, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi capabilities and visual / audible passenger information systems.
In addition, the vehicles feature special supports and toilets for disabled passengers, as well as a defibrillator and intercom system to enable the passengers to contact the conductor during emergencies.
Commenting on the contract, Stadler CEO Peter Spuhler said: “We’re thrilled to have won the new Koleje Mazowieckie tender and look forward to supplying Mazovia with our latest generation of safe, reliable and comfortable trains.
“The modern features of these trains can be enjoyed by both train operators and passengers alike.”

By GlobalDataStadler received its first Polish order in 2006, which covered the delivery of 14 FLIRT trains that are currently operating along regional lines in Mazovia and Silesia.
Koleje Mazowieckie plans to begin operating ten of these vehicles in the future.
Stadler has also received another Poland-based contract from Krakow’s municipal transport company, MPK Krakow, as part of a separate development.
The zl363.5m ($106.81m) deal was jointly awarded to Stadler and its partner Solaris Bus & Coach.
It includes the supply of 35 low-floor trams, with an option for an additional 15 units.
The modern three-car trams comprise four bogies each and feature an 80-person seating arrangement.
The first trams are expected to arrive in Krakow within the next two years and begin commercial service in 2020.
