Alstom has shipped the first trainset for Qatar’s Lusail tramway from its plant in La Rochelle, France.
The trainset is being transported by boat from the Barcelona harbour to Doha, where it is expected to arrive next month.
Its delivery forms part of a contract that was originally awarded in 2014 by the Qatar Railways Company to the LRTC consortium, which comprises Alstom and QDVC.
The deal involved the supply of a turnkey tramway system for deployment along a four-line tram network in the city of Lusail.
Alstom Middle-East and Africa senior vice-president Didier Pfleger said: “Thanks to all Alstom employees involved in the Lusail tramway project, we have managed to achieve this great milestone.
“We are very proud to work on this project for our customer in Qatar. Alstom is a long-term partner of the Qatari mobility market development.”
