The Weitz Company has received a design-build contract for the extension of the PHX Sky Train project at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in the US.
The contract, awarded by Bombardier Transportation, involves the development of Stage II of the automated people mover (APM) project, which includes a 2.5-mile extension to the airport’s Rental Car Center.
It also includes building two new stations and expanding the system’s maintenance facility.
The Weitz Company general manager Kimberly Davids said: “This is an exciting time for Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as it embarks on a project that will improve mobility around the airport and enhance the overall passenger experience.”
An additional 24 train cars are also scheduled to be added to the operating fleet to extend operations.
The new extension of the PHX Sky Train will allow smooth access from the airport facilities and the Rental Car Center, improving passenger experience and reducing adjacent airport road congestion.
