Sheffield City Council has awarded a contract to a consortium led by Atkins to devise a masterplan to deploy HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) services at the Sheffield Midland Railway Station.

The Atkins-led consortium includes Quatro PR, Cushman & Wakefield, Merrett Houmøller Architects and Lambert Smith Hampton.

Susquehanna and Western (NYSW) Railway has reached an agreement with Rockwell Collins for the deployment of its ARINC RailwayNet service.

The deployment is intended to meet the Positive Train Control (PTC) standards under the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008.

ARINC RailwayNet acts as a hosted network, messaging and application platform. It will offer interoperability between Class I railroads, short lines and commuter rails.

ST Engineering Electronics and Siemens consortium has secured S$18.8m ($13.71m) contract from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore for the development and implementation of Rail Enterprise Asset Management System (REAMS).

The system will integrate railway asset information and maintenance data across the rail lines. It will further make use of data analytics for the early identification of faults in the system.

The solution will be initially deployed on the 41.9km-long Downtown Line (DTL).

The deployment of the new system is intended to enhance the service reliability and optimise lifecycle costs.

A framework agreement was signed between Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Siemens Mobility for the supply of up to 700 passenger coaches over a period of five years.

The preliminary order includes the delivery of eight nine-car trains for day service and 13 seven-car trains for night service.

The deal, including the service options, is expected to be valued at €1.5bn ($1.74bn).

Viaggio coaches to be deployed with Siemens Taurus locomotive fleet of ÖBB will be supplied by Siemens, under the initial order.
