The government of Western Australia has chosen the NEWest Alliance as the preferred contractor for the Yanchep Rail Extension and Thornlie-Cockburn Link.
Both of these projects form part of the wider Metronet project and are expected to generate a total of around 3,000 jobs.
The NEWest Alliance consists of CIMIC Group company CPB Contractors and integrated services company Downer. The alliance will work with the Public Transport Authority regarding the design and construction schedule. The signing of the contract is scheduled to be completed next month.
CPB Contractors MD Juan Santamaria said: “CPB Contractors is proud to be playing this key role in the landmark METRONET project and to support the ongoing development of Perth as a vibrant, world-class city.
“As Australia’s leading provider of rail infrastructure, we’re committed to working closely with the WA Government and local communities to safely deliver this key component of Perth’s public transport system.”
Under the Yanchep Rail Extension, 14.5km will be added to the Joondalup Line and stations will be constructed at Alkimos, Eglinton and Yanchep.

Last year, the government allocated A$3.6bn ($2.71bn) for the Metronet passenger rail overhaul programme that aims to upgrade the transportation system in the city of Perth.
