The UK’s London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has announced that Azuma trains are operating between Aberdeen and London King’s Cross, as of 26 November.
The first Azuma train departed from Aberdeen at 07:52am GMT and stopped at Stonehaven, Montrose, Arbroath, Dundee, Leuchars, Kirkcaldy, Inverkeithing, Edinburgh Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley, before travelling to London King’s Cross.

This new service replaces LNER’s diesel high-speed trains (HSTs) that have operated on the Aberdeen route for 40 years. It offers extra luggage space in all carriages, with luggage racks installed in the place of non-reservable seats. The aim is to provide additional onboard luggage storage without disturbing pre-booked travellers.
LNER managing director David Horne said: “As one of our most popular routes and with Aberdeen being Scotland’s third-largest city, we’re proud to be introducing our new Azuma trains connecting Aberdeen with Edinburgh and London.
“The Granite City is the gateway to the UK’s largest national park, the Cairngorms, as well as being surrounded by some of Scotland’s most scenic coastlines. It’s a magnificent destination all year round and what better way to get to and from Aberdeen in style and speed than with our Azuma trains.
“We’re also pleased to be able to respond to customer feedback by increasing the space available for luggage onboard our long-distance services where customers typically travel with more luggage.”
