Engineering and consulting group Systra has been chosen for the tramway project in Uppsala, Sweden.
The company will compile a programme document and provide support to the regional and municipal authorities for the tramway design.
It will offer solutions for technology choices, routing, stops, yards and vehicles.
As part of an ambitious Swedish Government initiative, the project aims to reintroduce light rail to Uppsala after the first tramway network was demolished in 1953.
The government plans to build around 70,000 homes in Uppsala county and new main line stations at Nyala, south of Uppsala, and Bergsbrunna near Knivsta on the railway line between Uppsala and Stockholm.
Systra business development manager Andreas Persson said: “We are very proud to have received this assignment. We are a world-leading player in tramways and our historic references in this field were important factors in our being selected.”
