Bombardier Transportation has received an additional order from Italian intermodal freight operator GTS Rail for three BOMBARDIER TRAXX DC3 E.494 trains for its fleet.
After taking the delivery, GTS Rail’s TRAXX locomotive fleet will increase to 20 units, which includes as many as eight latest generation locomotives.
Manufacturing the entire TRAXX locomotive fleet of GTS Rail, Bombardier claims that these are the top-selling freight locomotives in Italy.
The European Bombardier TRAXX product platform owns the TRAXX DC3 E.494 locomotive.
Bombardier Transportation Italy CEO Franco Beretta said: “The signing of this contract represents further confirmation of the appreciation and trust between Bombardier and GTS Rail for more than 13 years. It is a real partnership resulting in a fleet of 20 locomotives for Italy, all from Bombardier’s TRAXX product family.
“In addition, another pride of Bombardier is to offer our customers a complete 360° service and these superb TRAXX locomotives operated by GTS Rail, which boast strong usage and high monthly mileage, are also serviced under a full maintenance contract with Bombardier.”

By GlobalDataSlated for deliveries from September, the new trains will be constructed at Bombardier’s Vado Ligure site in Italy.
GTS Rail CEO Alessio Muciaccia said: “We’re pleased to further strengthen our fleet which confirms our strategy of being an asset-based company.
“Bombardier is one of our earliest partners and we will also entrust them with our service business for the next ten years. The years to come will see exponential growth in rail transport and we are pleased to seize this incredible opportunity. Our goal is to double the fleet size over the next five years.”
China State Railway Group (China Railway) recently awarded a $192m contract to Bombardier Transportation’s Chinese joint venture to provide maintenance service for high-speed train cars.
Under the contract, Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation (BST) will provide maintenance services for 280 train cars, including CRH1A-A, CRH1A, CRH1E and CRH380D.
These 32 trains were manufactured by BST for China’s high-speed rail network.
