Alstom to provide maintenance support for UK’s Class 92 locomotives
Alstom secured a contract to provide maintenance support for 12 Class 92 locomotives, which are used to pull Class 92 Caledonian Sleeper carriages in the UK.
The £15m contract was awarded by GB Railfreight (GBRf) and commits Alstom to providing maintenance services for 12 years as of this year.

Australia to invest $3.89bn in Melbourne Airport Rail Link
The Australian Government announced a A$5bn ($3.89bn) investment to build the Melbourne Airport Rail Link in the state of Victoria.
Announcing the decision, the Australian Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull said that the Victorian Government is expected to make an equal contribution towards this project.
The planned rail link will connect the central business district (CBD) of the city to the airport.

By GlobalDataNetwork Rail to build new train depot in Wigan, UK
UK’s Network Rail announced plans to build a new train depot in Wigan as part of the Great North Rail Project.
The new £46m depot is to be located at the Springs Branch railway sidings in Ince-in-Makerfield and will be developed by adapting an existing freight yard.
The depot will be equipped to maintain 24 electric and eight diesel trains and create nearly 20 jobs in the process.
MTR secures $727m Macau light Rail contract
Hong Kong-based company MTR’s wholly owned subsidiary secured a HK$5.71bn ($727m) operations and maintenance assistance services contract (O&M Contract) for the Macau Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Taipa Line.
The contract was awarded by the Macau SAR Government to MTR Operações Ferroviárias (Macau) Sociedade Unipessoal (MTR (Macau)).
MTR (Macau) will be responsible for the Macau LRT Taipa Line’s testing and commissioning activities and operation of train services under the deal, as well as the maintenance of rolling stock, signalling systems and infrastructure.
BEML delivers first six-car train unit to Kolkata Metro
India-based Bharat Earth Movers (BEML) delivered the first set of six-car metro train units to Kolkata Metro Rail (KMRCL).
BEML was contracted to deliver 84 standard gauge metro cars (14 trains) to the KMRCL East-West Metro Line under the agreement.
The total contract value is nearly Rs9bn ($138.4m).
The new six-car metro trains were designed and manufactured by BEML.
Ontario to invest $8.7bn in initial phase of high-speed rail project
The Government of Ontario in Canada is set to invest more than C$11bn ($8.7bn) to support the development of Phase I of the high-speed rail project connecting the Ontario cities Toronto and London.
The project is expected to reduce journey times by half along the Toronto-Windsor corridor and provide a more sustainable travel option for commuters.
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said: “The best time to build high-speed rail was 30 years ago. The second best time is right now, so we are taking action.
“We are going to build this line, because high-speed rail is going to unlock so many benefits for people and businesses across Southwestern Ontario.”
Bombardier to provide 40 high-speed trains to Sweden
Bombardier Transportation won a $452m contract to supply 40 high-speed electric multiple unit trains that would operate in the Västra Götaland region of Sweden.
The contract was awarded by regional transport services operator Västtrafik and includes the option of an additional 60 vehicles.
Västtrafik Board chairman Lars Holmin said: “Since Västtrafik was formed in 1999 the ridership by train has more than doubled. We are continuously challenged to meet the target of 135,000 journeys per day provided by the county.
“We see a steady increase in train passengers and we are the right track. The new trains will contribute to even more attractive journeys for our customers.”
Siemens wins €800m contract to digitalise Norwegian Railway
Siemens secured a contract worth around €800m from Norwegian state-owned company Bane NOR to upgrade the signalling system across the country’s entire railroad network.
The company is slated to equip around 4,200km of track with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-type Trainguard under the deal, which will be combined with Sinet, an interlocking-type Simis W and IP-based wayside network communication solution.
The contract also includes the provision of maintenance services for 25 years starting with the commissioning of the first line.
DB-led consortium wins $2.26bn Mumbai Metro Line 4 contract
A consortium led by DB Engineering secured a project management and construction management services contract valued at $2.26bn for the Mumbai Metro Line 4 in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Alongside DB Engineering, the consortium includes Louis Berger and Hill International.
The contract was awarded by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Kuala Lumpur-Singapore HSR asset bids deadline extended to December
The developers of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-Singapore HSR) extended the deadline for the submission of bids to provide assets for the project until 28 December.
MyHSR and SG HSR jointly launched the assets company (AssetsCo) tender on 20 December last year.
The company selected through this tender process will be responsible for designing, building, financing and maintaining all rolling stock for the KL-Singapore HSR.
