US-based Jacobs Engineering Group has been awarded a contract by Etihad Rail to provide technical and programme consulting services for the UAE’s freight and passenger railway network.
Under the contract, Jacobs will offer engineering and design services for the 900km rail line network.
As well as offering construction supervision for the entire project, the company will be responsible for reviewing and providing oversight for the detailed proposals to be prepared by a network of design and build contractors.
Jacobs buildings, infrastructure and advanced facilities president Bob Pragada said: “We were able to bring together the combined technical resources and synergies of Jacobs and our recently acquired CH2M team that presents a fully integrated service offering for this world-class rail project.
“This included accessing the best talent across the breadth of our global network, coupled with a strong local presence provided by Jacobs in the UAE.”
Planned to be built in phases, the rail project is part of the planned GCC railway network linking UAE bordering countries and critical economic centres. It will also connect key centres of population and industry of the UAE.
