AECOM has secured a new contract from the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) to provide detailed planning and design consultancy services for the Tuen Mun South Extension in Hong Kong.
The project involves building a 2.4km-long extension towards the south from the existing Tuen Mun Station to a new terminus at Tuen Mun South. The extension is expected to feature an intermediate station.
Under the contract, AECOM will collaborate with government departments and other stakeholders to develop an engineering design, prepare a construction programme and release plans for the project.
A cost estimate will also be provided.
AECOM CEO Troy Rudd said: “As we execute our strategy of bringing together one integrated design organisation, we will leverage our best-in-class, global transportation design capabilities to bring the full breadth of our expertise to bear on this project.”
Once complete, the Tuen Mun South Extension is expected to improve local connectivity by providing a commuting alternative to around 110,000 residents.
Construction work is expected to begin in 2023, with completion scheduled in 2030.
AECOM Greater China chief executive Ian Chung said: “Over the past five decades, AECOM has worked in close partnership with MTR and provided strategy studies to 90% of Hong Kong’s rail system.
“We look forward to working with MTR on this latest rail transportation project, which builds upon this to enhance connectivity of our communities in Hong Kong.”
Headquartered in the US, AECOM operates as an infrastructure consulting firm and supports its clients to execute projects across several sectors.
Last year, the company secured a contract to provide technical support during the design and construction phases of the Lyon to Turin high-speed rail line.
