Bombardier Transportation has won a $452m contract to supply 40 high-speed electric multiple unit trains that would operate in the Västra Götaland region of Sweden.

The contract, awarded by regional transport services operator Västtrafik, includes the option of an additional 60 vehicles.

“We want to support regional growth by providing the ideal mobility solution that will ensure the comfort and ease of every passenger’s journey.”

These three-car low floor trains are designed to improve capacity, operate under harsh weather conditions and meet the specific requirements of Västra Götaland region.

Equipped with Wi-Fi, the trains have seating capacity for 270 passengers and can operate at a maximum speed of 200km/h with low operational costs.

Bombardier Transportation sales director Marina Sundman said: “Our longstanding partnership with Västtrafik, supported by our teams in the Sävenäs and Falköping depots in Västra Götaland have laid the foundation for designing the new train.

“We want to support regional growth by providing the ideal mobility solution that will ensure the comfort and ease of every passenger’s journey.”
