Bombardier Transportation has secured an order from French company Société nationale des chemins de fer français Mobilités (SNCF) to supply nine Regio 2N trainsets for the Greater Paris public transport authority, Ile-de-France Mobilités.
The order is valued nearly $120m, including price escalations, and forms a part of a contract originally signed in 2010 that included an option for the provision of up to 860 trains.
Bombardier Transport France president Laurent Bouyer said: “Bombardier teams based in the north of France are committed to designing reliable, highly automated trains that integrate state-of-the-art technologies to contribute to the smooth operation on the SNCF Transilien network.
“Our engineers have also developed an in-depth knowledge of the network’s special requirements.
“Such massive investments from Ile-de-France Mobility towards the purchase of modern, comfortable trains, which are praised by passengers, will quickly enhance the quality of daily rail journeys.”
The double-decker Regio 2N locomotives have been designed to fulfil the requirements of passengers on the lines serving the Paris suburbs.
