Deutsche Bahn subsidiary DB Regio has ordered 19 Coradia Continental electric trains that will operate in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
The contract is worth about €120m and was awarded to Alstom, which will build and assemble the trains at its Salzgitter factory. DB Regio has placed the order on behalf of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport.
These trains will run on rail lines from Karlsruhe to Heilbronn and Achern, as well as to Herrenberg via Freudenstadt, from December 2022. They will be gradually introduced into the fleet.
The trains adhere to the operational requirements of the region and will optimise passenger experience. They also feature high-performance Wi-Fi, several multi-purpose areas and a large bicycle area.
Upon delivery, the trains will become the property of the Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Württemberg (SFBW) and are leased by DB Regio for the 13-year transport contract term.
Alstom Germany and Austria managing director Jörg Nikutta said: “Passengers in the Karlsruhe region can look forward to modern, proven and reliable trains.
