Dutch state-owned railway operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has placed an order worth nearly €400m with CAF for 302 additional CIVITY platform passenger cars.
CAF will configure the delivery into 50 three-car trains and 38 four-car trains.
The order is an extension of the 2014 contract involving the supply of 68 three-car trains and 50 four-car trains for nearly €500m.
By 2020, the 118 trains from the first order will be delivered to The Netherlands, while all 206 trains are expected to enter service from the beginning of 2023.
Capable of operating at a speed of up to 160 km/h, the passenger trains will run across the country offering ‘sprinter’ services.
The trains are designed for relatively short distance passenger services. They will also be equipped with first-class areas adjacent to the driver cab.
