Germany-based Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) has exercised an agreement option for 20 additional dual-system Bombardier FLEXITY trams.
Valued at $98m, the order will enable AVG to expand its fleet to 62 trams.
It is the third order to be exercised under the agreement signed in 2009 to deliver a total of 75 vehicles.
Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft CEO Dr Alexander Pischon said: “Striving to provide attractive local transport services, we have decided to order 20 additional dual-system vehicles from Bombardier Transportation.
“This will allow us to purposefully enlarge our vehicle fleet offering high-quality standards to our passengers.”
Bombardier is scheduled to deliver the 20 trams between May 2020 and March 2021.

They will be designed to fulfil regional requirements in Karlsruhe, south-west Germany, and ensure adaptation of existing infrastructure.
The floor height of the vehicles will be modified to enable swift access for passengers with reduced mobility or heavy luggage.
Furthermore, the 37m long FLEXITY trams will be equipped with a modern passenger information system and Wi-Fi services. All bogies will also feature air springs to provide increased passenger comfort.
Bombardier Light Rail Vehicles head Alexander Ketterl said: “We are proud that AVG will continue to rely on our dependable and easy-to-maintain FLEXITY trams in order to extend their transport service.”
The trams can accommodate up to 244 passengers and have seating arrangements for 93 people.
