UK-based public transport operator Go-Ahead Group’s German unit Go-Ahead Bus and Bahn has secured a contract from the Bavarian rail authority and the Baden-Wurttemberg public transport authority to operate the E-Netz Allgau network.
Scheduled to begin in 2021, the 12-year contract has brought the number of rail networks operated by Go-Ahead Bus and Bahn to four.
The E-Netz Allgau network will provide regional services and connect Munich and Lindau, running across the German federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg.
Around 2.5m kilometres of the E-Netz Allgau route, which is currently operated by Deutsche Bahn, will be served by electric trains.
Go-Ahead chief executive David Brown said: “Our growing local team continues to look for opportunities in the region as part of our strategy to build a long-term German transport business.
“This network complements our existing contracts in the region and builds on our desire to provide end to end journeys, including through our stake in German electric car sharing business, Mobileeee.”

The Murrbahn network offers commuter services between Stuttgart and Nuremberg, within the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.
Nearly 1.3m kilometres of the network are expected to deploy Stadler Flirt3XL trains.
