Metroselskabet has awarded a €460m design and build contract for Sydhavn Metro Line (Line 4) in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The contract was awarded to the equal joint venture (JV) of Vinci Construction Grands Projets and Hochtief Infrastructure, which will serve as the JV technical leader.

Vinci Construction Grands Projets Northern Europe, British Isles and Americas operations director Eric Chambraud said: “Eighteen years after the delivery of the Øresund tunnel and two years after the award of the Femern tunnel, it’s our honour to continue to work for the Danish people’s daily mobility with a new line of underground metro, especially with our historical partner Hochtief.”
The design and build project for the southern metro line is a mandate to be carried out for a six-year period and will involve the construction of dual 4.4km tunnels with the aid of two earth-pressure tunnel boring machines (TBM).
Additionally, five underground stations and two crossover structures would be built. The project will also include electrical and mechanical systems, architectural interior works, and in-tunnel ventilation.
The tunnels will feature an interior diameter, with an exterior diameter of 4.9m and 5.5m respectively.

For construction of the new metro line, Vinci and Hochtief will combine their skill sets in design, project management, and underground works.

Hochtief is currently executing the Metro Cityringen Branch-off to Nordhavn tunnel project in Copenhagen as part of a JV.
