The UK’s Network Rail has selected preferred bidders to carry out rail system works in Scotland and the South of England over the next decade.
Babcock Rail, Arup and Arcadis have secured the contract for the Northern Alliance, which covers the Scotland route. Colas Rail and AECOM were selected for the South Alliance contract, which includes Anglia, South East, Wessex, Western and Wales routes.
The scope of the contract works comprises almost every aspect of the rail systems including track, points, overhead lines and signalling.
Both contracts have five-year base periods, with the option of an additional five years.
Network Rail added that the selection is subject to the finalisation of contract terms.
Currently, the selection of the preferred bidder for the third contract, Central Alliance, is underway. It includes London North West, London North East and East Midlands routes. The preferred bidder will be announced after final verification and internal approvals.
