Network Rail has contracted Aggreko to provide rental power for emergency support and planned maintenance across the UK.
Aggreko was awarded the five-year contract, following a competitive tender process. The company will hire and install mobile, modular diesel, and gas generators, as well as load banks, heaters, air conditioning units, and associated technologies.
Locations of installation include at trackside, train stations, substations, signalling centres, tunnels, telecoms, and operations centres.
Aggreko Rail’s national accounts manager John Anderson said: "Everything needs power. We could be called to any part of the network to help in emergency situations such as sudden power failures or for planned events such as scheduled maintenance.
"Safety and minimum disruption are paramount on the rail network and this new framework agreement will enable us to provide a fully coordinated service and to put in place further contingency plans to ensure power resilience."
Network Rail and Aggreko have already worked together to support planned and reactive maintenance, construction projects, and emergency power outages.
