Mexico's Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transporte (SCT) has received the first of 18 Metropolis Alstom trains, which will be deployed on the new Line three of Guadalajara metro network.

To be operated by Sistema de Tren Eléctrico Urbano (SITEUR), line three is around 21km in length and runs through Zapopan, Guadalajara and Tlaquepaque.

Once complete, the line is expected to transport around 230,000 passengers a day.

Alstom Mexico manager director Rodelmar Ocampo said: “We are pleased to hand over and as per schedule the first Metropolis trainset to SCT.

“This project will undoubtedly benefit the metropolitan area of Guadalajara and its residents who will be commuting aboard a reliable, comfortable and environmentally friendly means of transport.”

With ability to operate at a maximum speed of 90km/h, the newly delivered Metropolis three-car train is equipped with air-conditioning, as well as a communication and information system for passengers.

The lightweight trains are designed to achieve optimisation of traction performance and energy recovery, as well as meeting necessary environmental standards.

Along with CPVM, Alstom has produced the trainset at its factory in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona, Spain.

Under its contract with STC, Alstom will provide and integrate an entire Guadalajara metro system and will supply communication systems, high-voltage and traction substations, and traffic control solutions.

So far, Alstom has provided more than 5,000 Metropolis trains to countries that include China, Brazil and Singapore.
