Alstom has unveiled its zero-emission train Coradia iLint, which is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and an alternative to diesel-powered rail vehicles. 

Coradia iLint emits only steam and condensed water, and operates with a decreased level of noise.

In order to make deployment of this train simple for operators, Alstom is offering a complete package comprising the train and maintenance services, as well as the hydrogen infrastructure.

The launch of Coradia iLint follows the letters of intent signed with the German Landers of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, and the Public Transportation Authorities of Hesse in 2014 for using a new generation of emission-free trains equipped with fuel cell drive.

Alstom has sold more than 2,400 of its Coradia range of modular regional trains worldwide.

Coradia iLint is based on the service-proven diesel train Coradia Lint 54, and will be manufactured in the company’s Salzgitter site. 

The CO2-emission-free regional train was showcased at InnoTrans fair in Berlin from 20-23 September.
