UK-based public transport group Arriva is planning to invest £4.5m to install the Energymiser Driver Advisory System (DAS) on more than 580 train cabs from 15 different DMU fleets of its Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, Arriva Trains Wales, and Grand Central.
Developed by TTG Transportation Technology, the Energymiser DAS eco-technology will help Arriva train drivers to deliver more efficient journeys for passengers while reducing fuel by up to 15%.
Energymiser DAS is an on-board computer screen that offers drivers real-time route information on train running times, while letting them monitor train performance and reliability. The technology also offers drivers guidance on train speeds.
Arriva UK Trains COO Steve Murphy said: "This technology is a major investment that will support our drivers every day out on the UK’s rail network.
"It will provide them with the information they need to help maximise train performance for our customers and reduce fuel consumption and emissions to make rail travel more eco-friendly."
Installation of the new technology will begin at CrossCountry trains in early next year, at Chiltern Railways in the spring, and at Arriva Trains Wales and Grand Central later in 2014.
