Australia’s Victorian Government is planning to implement a series of initiatives to boost capacity and reliability of services on the Ballarat line, in the wake of significant patronage growth, and network changes.
Announced by public transport minister Jacinta Allan, the new steps include construction of a new passing loop at Rowsley that will start within the next few weeks.
The new passing loop is expected to help services recover from unexpected delays more quickly, improving reliability and punctuality.
The Wendouree Station car park is also scheduled to be upgraded with 200 additional spaces through a $2.5m expansion programme, which will double the capacity of the existing car park.
Allan said: "Patronage is booming and the performance of Ballarat services isn’t up to scratch. That’s why we have added services, added carriages and reviewed the timetable make services more reliable."
"Improvements for Ballarat line passengers will continue over the coming months, with work starting on the new Rowsley passing loop and car park expansion in Wendouree, and a new, more reliable timetable in January."
