A consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation and Hartasuma has delivered the first of the 14 Innovia Metro 300 trains for operation on the Kelana Jaya Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The order for these new generation trains was placed by Kuala Lumpur transport agency Prasarana Malaysia and they will be run by train operator Rapid Rail on the light metro line.
Designed for driverless operation, the new trains will increase capacity and improve public transport in the city.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad chairman Tan Sri Ismail Adam said: "We hope the introduction of the new trains will further encourage more people to use public transport and support the government’s aspiration to increase the public transport modal share."
Powered by linear induction motors (LIMs), the trains are designed, built and tested at Bombardier’s centre of competence for mass transit systems at Kingston, Canada.
The trains are being completed at Malaysian rolling stock maintenance company Hartasuma’s facility in Westport, Malaysia, which is responsible for interior fit-out, and installation of onboard security and communications systems.
