Bombardier Transportation and consortium partner Vossloh Kiepe have secured a $156m contract for the supply of 40 Flexity low-floor trams to the city of Gothenburg in Sweden.
The contract also includes an option for up to 60 additional trams and is valid until 2026.
The new trams will be leased to operator Göteborgs Spårvägar.
Göteborgs Spårvägar chairman Endrick Schubert said: “Bombardier is a leading tram supplier and these trams will form an important contribution to further developing public transport in Gothenburg.”
The new trams feature double glazing on all windows and doors to prevent condensation and safeguard visibility and transparency in all weather conditions.
The vehicles are adapted to the city’s existing light rail infrastructure and all types of environmental and climate conditions. They feature low-floors to provide obstacle free access to all passengers.

By GlobalDataBombardier’s trams are also equipped with a Vossloh Kiepe propulsion system and Bombardier Flexx bogies and all its versions are supported by an electromechanical boarding device.
Bombardier Transportation locomotives and light rail vehicles president Michael Fohrer said: “We are proud to have won this tender and to continue sustaining our long-term partnership with Göteborgs Spårvägar.
“Our objective was to provide the best value for money and we were able to convince with both our vehicle concept and our service offering.”
Scheduled to be delivered to Gothenburg in 2019, the first two trams will be tested and run for more than 20,000km each prior to final acceptance.
The Flexity family’s modularity enables the delivery of three different versions, which includes 33m long uni-directional and bi-directional vehicles, as well as a 45m long uni-directional version.
