US-based express passenger rail system Brightline has unveiled its first trainset, BrightBlue, which consists of two locomotives and four coaches.
Manufactured by Siemens in its Sacramento facility in California, the trainset is housed at Brightline’s new railroad operations facility, Workshop b, in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Brightline president Mike Reininger said: “Our trains are among the most innovative in the US and the world, with every detail having been designed and built from the guest’s perspective, making it easy, convenient and comfortable to ride.
“We are looking forward to the launch our new express, inter-city service this summer. South Florida is very close to experiencing the future of train travel, a new travel alternative as an option to private cars on crowded roads.”
Featuring level boarding, Brightline trains use automated retractable platforms that are integrated into the car door systems of the train.
Before the doors open, the platforms extend up to 12in from the train and then create a flush surface for passengers to cross from platform to train.
