Spanish company CAF has secured a €37m contract to supply an additional 12 trams for Storstockholms Lokaltrafik’s transport network in Stockholm, Sweden.
The new vehicles are expected to be ready for shipment in late 2019.
CAF previously signed the initial contract with Storstockholms for the production of 15 units in 2010.
The contract included an option for the supply of an additional 121 trams, which led to SL AB extending the order two times earlier this year with an order of seven trams and another of eight units respectively.
The additional trams are now under production.
Storstockholms Lokaltrafik has ordered a total of 42 trams from CAF overall, including 22 that are currently operating in Stockholm.

By GlobalDataTwo of the newly contracted trams will comprise four modules and are set to operate on the Lidingöbanan line to increasing the frequency of services across the network.
The remaining ten vehicles are to have three modules each and will run on the Tvärbana line.
The extension of the Tvärbana line is scheduled to begin operating in 2021.
All the new bi-directional trams will be based on the URBOS platform and meet the necessary environmental standards.
The vehicles are designed to adapt to the extreme Nordic weather conditions and feature low-floors to ensure optimum accessibility.
CAF noted that the trams can operate at a top speed of 90km/h and are equipped with the latest safety equipment.
The company has also shipped the first two lots of a contract with the Flemish Transportation Company (Belgium) De Lijn, which is expected see the delivery of nearly 146 trams.
De Lijn’s trams are set to operate in the Antwerp, East Flanders and West Flanders provinces.
