China-based ZTE Corporation’s rail transport service has been awarded a contract to enable the modernisation of the 1,315km-long Nigerian railway.
ZTE will work alongside project contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to deliver advanced communications systems, debugging and commissioning services for the railway.
CCECC has been contracted to execute the construction of a double-track standard-gauge railway which would run from Lagos to Kano, Nigeria.
ZTE’s communications equipments will include the transmission system, telephone system, wireless communications system, scheduling and optical communication column system, power supply system, and communication instruments.
The company will also offer information systems such as the passenger guidance system, public address system, clock system, and power supply devices, to ensure the smooth operation of the railway upon completion.
The railway project is expected to be commissioned by the Nigerian Government in 2015. Financial details of the contract remain undisclosed.
