Cubic Transportation Systems and On Track Innovations (oti) have partnered for the integration of oti’s Wave near-field communication (NFC) device into the former’s NextWave mobile mass transit platform.
The NextWave platform reduces the complexities of installing mobile services by delivering a cloud-based solution that integrates closed and open-loop contactless fare systems, payment processors, mobile networks, NFC platforms, iOS and Android devices.
Cubic’s NextWave platform was launched in September 2013.
The new addition to the list, oti’s Wave device uses the audio jack as an easy and cost-effective method to add NFC capability to smartphones or tablets, including Apple iPhones, iPads and Android-based mobile devices.
Cubic Transportation Systems vice-president of strategic initiatives David deKozan said: "oti’s Wave dramatically expands our capabilities for managing secure NFC-based transactions.
"The Wave helps fulfil the mission of NextWave, which is to help transit agencies deploy mobile services to market quickly and at a fraction of the cost associated with dedicated systems."

By GlobalDataAs a result of this integration, passengers will be able to make secure fare purchases with the help of the Wave smartphone app.
The process of pairing with the smartphone or device will be eliminated when the electronic fare card has been provisioned. The Wave can then be used by waving the device over an NFC-enabled turnstile.
