Downer EDI Works has secured a contract from the NSW Government to upgrade Homebush Station on the main suburban line in Sydney.
The deal is part of New South Wales’ (NSW) transport access programme, with the contractual scope including developing new stairs, accessible toilets and improved lighting, installation of CCTV cameras, access to ‘kiss and ride’ zone, bicycle stands, new bus stops and shelters outside the station.
People with limited mobility can access the platform by the new lifts that will be installed as part of the programme.
The Government of Bangladesh has granted a $200m loan to modernise the railways in the country, which will be financed by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Existing lines such as the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Khulna mainline will see a capacity enhancement using the fund.
AB Transitio has secured a Skr695m ($80.85m) loan from Nordic Investment Bank (nib) to buy 33 new double-decker passenger trains to be used on four railway lines in Malardalen, Sweden.

Thales has secured a €57m ($63.57m) worth signalling contract from AlpTransit Gotthard to provide European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2 technology for the Ceneri tunnel in Switzerland.
Thales will also provide project management, and train command and control systems integration services on the new tunnel, which forms the final section of the transalpine rail corridor from Zurich, Switzerland to Milan, Italy.
