Siemens has secured a contract from Indian Railways to deploy Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) on the dual-cab, high-horsepower diesel engine locomotives produced at Indian Railways' Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) production unit.

The contract will see Siemens design, supply and install IGBT technology-based alternating current (AC) traction systems on the locomotives.

The companies that secured deals include SCS JV for the development of Area South, Align JV and CEK JV for Area Central, and BBV JV for Area North of the Phase One project.

The new contracts comprise the main civil engineering works on the first phase of HS2 between London and Birmingham, and have a combined value of roughly $8.59bn.
