Siemens has secured a contract from Indian Railways to deploy Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) on the dual-cab, high-horsepower diesel engine locomotives produced at Indian Railways' Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) production unit.
The contract will see Siemens design, supply and install IGBT technology-based alternating current (AC) traction systems on the locomotives.
The IGBT systems are expected to significantly reduce electricity consumption, heat generation and traction noise during the trains' operation.
Lendlease Engineering-led Cross Yarra Partnership has been selected by the Victoria government for the construction of the Melbourne Metro Tunnel Project.
Other partners in the consortium include John Holland, Bouygues Construction and Capella Capital.
The scope of the deal includes construction of the Metro Tunnel along with five new underground stations, which will feature urban design with spacious platforms, optimised natural light, and sweeping arches.
