Austrian railway telecommunication provider Kapsch CarrierCom has secured a contract from Luxembourgian railway operator CFL to implement a global system for mobile communications – railway (GSM-R) across the 271km railway network.
The project, which will start at the beginning of next year, includes operation and service support for the first three years.
CFL noted that it selected Kapsch as the system supplier, integrator and network operator for the installation of the GSM-R radio network, following a Europe-wide tender.
Under the deal, Kapsch will install an IP-based Release 4 core network and a future-proof access network with the latest RDN base station.
The company will also be responsible for the delivery and integration of other subsystems, including fibre-based transmission and a new dispatcher network integrated with the existing system.
Kapsch CarrierCom chief operating officer Thomas Schöpf said: "As the global leading railway dedicated network supplier, Kapsch is providing communication for close to 80,000km of railway tracks across Europe, Africa and Asia.
