ForCity Classic

Škoda Transportation has started testing its ForCity Classic battery-powered tram, which is intended for the Turkish city of Konya.

The new modern, fully low-floor tram, with a range of at least 3km, will be capable of moving independently of the traction mains.

Škoda Transportation project manager Václav Petr said: "Already the third battery-powered tram is undergoing a part of type tests on the rails of the transport company Škoda in Pilsen.

"The first two prototypes have already been delivered to the Turkish city of Konya, where they will undergo the remaining type tests. "

Petr added that the other nine trams will be manufactured and delivered to Konya by the end of July.

"we would like to manufacture more than 50 vehicles ForCity Plus for the Slovak capital Bratislava, which will result in a significant modernisation of the vehicle fleet in Bratislava." 

Škoda has already delivered 60 trams ForCity Classic for a transport company in Konya. The delivery of the trams completed in March.

In addition, the company ordered 12 additional battery-powered trams last year. The total value of the contract for 72 trams is CZK3.4bn (€124m).

Škoda Transportation CEO Tomáš Ignacák said: "We successfully managed to complete deliveries of ForCity Classic trams to the Hungarian city of Miskolc and Turkish city of Konya.

"This year, besides battery-powered trams, we would like to manufacture more than 50 vehicles ForCity Plus for the Slovak capital Bratislava, which will result in a significant modernisation of the vehicle fleet in Bratislava."

In addition, the company will manufacture than 30 modern ForCity Alfa trams for the Prague public transport company. Those trams will be equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi.
