Mermec has delivered a new comprehensive Class Roger 600 measurement vehicle to Chilean rail operator Grupo Empresade los Ferrocarriles del Estado (EFE).
Grupo EFE will operate the Mermec-designed and manufactured special self-propelled car to daily monitor the national railway network.
The customised Class Roger 600 vehicle will help engineers to optimise maintenance and renewal works while improving safety and availability of the lines.
Dubbed as Maquina Registradora de Vía (MRV) the 18m-long, steel-bodied diesel-propelled recording car is equipped with a bundle of systems, including those for the measurement and inspection of track geometry, overhead-line geometry, contact wire wear, rail internal flaws and running dynamics.
The delivery of the recording car is part of a wider commercial agreement, including the provisioning of long-term professional services aiming to proactively train local Chilean team on the best-practises to assure the highest quality in the measurement and analysis process.
The company noted that the new vehicle is expected to reduce inspection time.
