A new A$72m ($54.5m) train station has opened in Aubin Grove, located towards the south of Perth, Western Australia.

Aubin Grove station is located between the Cockburn Central and Kwinana stations on the Mandurah Line, and is expected to see approximately 3,900 boarding daily.

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan said: “At the time the Labor Government built the Mandurah Line we made an allowance for this station to be built, as population growth increased demand.

“Living in Rockingham I know personally how badly this station is needed to service the growing southern suburbs, and that's why we first committed to the construction of this station in 2012.”

The new station has been developed using locally fabricated steel and features 2,000 parking bays, bike facilities, six bus feeder services for local residents, and a kiosk, among others.

The total cost of the Aubin Grove road and rail project is approximately A$125m ($94.55m), which includes A$20m ($15.1m) in federal funding for the Russell Road upgrade that was completed in December.

Western Australia Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said: “The new station was built while the Mandurah Line was largely still operational.

"At the time the Labor Government built the Mandurah Line we made an allowance for this station to be built, as population growth increased demand."

“This project represents a feat of engineering, with the station largely constructed off-site and then sections craned into place over the last 18 months.”

Two three-car train sets were delivered and are already operating on the Transperth network as part of the development.

Australia-based building and civil construction company Georgiou delivered the road and rail works.

The Aubin Grove station created almost 100 local jobs during its construction phase.
