NSW norwest underground pedestrian link

Australia’s New South Wales (NSW) Government has proposed to build a new underground pedestrian link as part of the future Norwest Railway Station to the Norwest retail and business space.

The new underground link will take pedestrians below Norwest Boulevard, as well as provide a faster and easier link from the new railway station to established commercial space.

NSW minister for transport and infrastructure Andrew Constance said: "The A$8.3bn ($6.1bn) Sydney Metro Northwest, formerly known as the North West Rail Link, is the first stage of Sydney Metro, Australia’s biggest public transport project.

"Norwest is one of the fastest growing employment centres in Sydney.

"About 15,000 people travel to Norwest for work every day at major Australian and international companies, and this is expected to increase to 30,000 by 2031."

"Norwest is one of the fastest growing employment centres in Sydney."

Construction work is currently underway on the new Norwest Station and if the proposed underground pedestrian link is built, it will be a new second entry to station in addition to the surface entry at the corner of Norwest Boulevard and Brookhollow Avenue.

The new underpass would provide better traffic movements on Norwest Boulevard, as well as better pedestrian access and public transport options around Norwest Business Park.

Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott said: "We have seen in recent times the need for forward thinking to alleviate congestion on Norwest Boulevard, and this underpass will do just that.

The new underground pedestrian link will also open up more economic opportunities in the Hills.

The NSW government is now seeking the local community’s say on the proposed underground pedestrian link.
