Siemens is set to install the new ‘Tractronic Thinity’ railway transformer for the first time on-board 24 DB-Regio trains based on the Mireo train platform from 2020.

Siemens' new transformer system feeds the train’s power supply and ensures interference-free rail traffic, and is claimed to be more lightweight than previous models.

The 24 Mireo trains are scheduled to start operating on the Offenburg – Freiburg – Basel / Neuchâtel (Switzerland) line, as well as in the Kaiserstuhl region from Freiburg to Endingen / Breisach.

The Mireo locomotives are expected to reduce the overall journey time by roughly 30 minutes.

Siemens manufactures and supplies traction transformers to operators worldwide.

The company produces the equipment at its five manufacturing facilities under the supervision of its lead management team based in Nuremberg, Germany.
