German engineering company Siemens will deliver the latest signalling technology for a main-line rail route that runs for approximately 380km from the Turkish port of Samsun on the Black Sea, to the railway junction of Kalin in Central Anatolia.
With the upgrade of the existing signalling equipment, the maximum speed on the rail route between will be increased from 70km/h to 120km/h, thereby reducing the journey time from nine to five hours.
Covering 31 stations, the main-line rail route between Samsun and Kalin is slated to be commissioned next year.
Under the deal, Siemens is delivering the Trackguard Westrace electronic interlocking systems, level-crossing technology, communication technology, point machines and the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level I for the route.
As part of the contract, Siemens will also be responsible for equipping the operations control centre in Samsun.
Nearly 150 million passengers travel on more than 10,000km of Turkish rail network every year.

In case of main-line transport in Turkey, Siemens delivered ETCS signalling technology for the route running between Bandirma and Menemen, along with of the most important high-speed lines operating from the industry hub of Konya to the capital city of Ankara.
Early this year, Siemens, on behalf of the Egyptian National Railways (ENR), also supplied signalling technology for 260km of rail corridors running from Zagazig to Abu Kebir and from Benha to Port Said within the country.
