Stadler has received a contract from Norwegian railway firm NSB Gjøvikbanen to maintain ten FLIRT trains for a period of three years.
The existing ‘Lodalen’ facility in Oslo will be adapted to facilitate the maintenance of FLIRT Gjøvikbanen’s fleet under the deal, which was awarded via a public procurement process.
Stadler will begin first line maintenance of the FLIRT trains from January next year and is set to continue providing services until the end of 2020.
The deal also includes an option to extend the duration of the contract at a later date.
NSB Gjøvikbanen’s parent company Norges Statsbaner (NSB) originally acquired the first 50 FLIRT trains from Stadler in 2008 and intends to expand its fleet to 125 trains by 2020.
The new trains have been specially designed to cope with harsh Norwegian winter conditions with temperatures as low as -40°C.

The first line maintenance is expected to include a number of preventive and corrective maintenance procedures.
The company is already carrying out full service for bybanen’s light rail fleet in Bergen and possesses several additional service sites such as Stockholm and Tillberga in Sweden, and Aarhus, Denmark, as part of its Service Region Nordic.
Stadler Division Service executive vice-president Jürg Gygax said: “We are very happy that we have succeeded in this tender.
“This is another important milestone in our future focus markets Norway and the Nordic region, with the contract we are proud to deliver a great availability.
“I am looking forward to start soon together with NSB Gjøvikbanen and to perform excellent service to the passengers.”
